The fifth member of my plant family is a fern, known in our household as Mr Fern. I have no idea what his Plant ID is and have consulted with other plant lovers and Google without any luck. I bought him back in December 2019 with my Sansevieria at Woodies and he was simply labeled “Varens” which is Dutch for Fern, so not entirely helpful.
With my “Meet The Family” series of posts I will be introducing you to my plants and tell you a little bit more about the story behind each plant. I will also attempt to share more about my plant care, and how the plant responds to the conditions in our apartment.
As it was winter and our home (and Ireland in general) tends to be grey and low on light I started out with plants that can tolerate low light environments. Mr Fern was placed in our guest bathroom as my research showed that Ferns tend to fare well in bathrooms due to the moisture. Our bathroom window is a South facing window but it is textured so it filters the light which seems to be exactly what he needs.
He has been in the same spot since last year and seems to be extremely happy. He is in a well draining soil mix like most of my plants and I water him when the topsoil seems dry. My ferns all like to stay moist so I mist them once or twice a day.
If anyone can confirm the exact name for my fern please let me know. It will be much appreciated.
